Welding Wire
If you look inside a MIG welder, you'll find a spool of wire that feeds through the center of "cable" connected to the gun, This cable also feeds welding current by way of the welding wire, supplies the shielding gas and transmits the trigger signal from the switch on the gun to the drive motor of the wire spool. When the gun is triggered, the wire is pushed at a rate of speed determined by the setting you select. The wire then travels through copper tips at the outlet of the gun to keep it from fusing to the internal parts of the gun.

Nitrogen
Nitrogen (N2) comprises 78 percent of the earth's atmosphere. Colorless, odorless, tasteless, and nontoxic, nitrogen exists as a non-flammable gas at atmospheric temperatures and pressures. A specific gravity of .9669 makes nitrogen slightly lighter than air. While not a true inert gas Nitrogen does display many of the traits of an inert gas at standard temperatures and pressures.
Nitrogen is used primarily for its inert characteristics in blanketing and pressurization such as packaging fresh foods and pressurization beer. It is also used in a liquid form for cryogenic cooling for testing and shrink fitting applications.
